Storm land high profile PG Jahii Carson

The Island Storm signed high-flying point guard Jahii Carson on Friday.

Carson comes into the team's roster with numerous credentials. He starred for the Arizona State Sun Devils for two years, averaging 18.6 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists as a sophomore before declaring for the 2014 NBA draft. The 5'10" floor general was named first-team All-Pac 12 in both seasons. He also earned Parade All-American honors while at Mesa High School.

Since leaving the Sun Devils, Carson has played overseas in the top ranks of Australian and Serbian basketball, and more recently in the Turkish second league. He is coming off a stint with Adanaspor, with whom he averaged 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

Perhaps one of Carson's most impressive statistics comes off the court. He recorded a 43.5-inch vertical leap at the NBA draft combine in 2014, tying with just one other player that year for the top spot. Head coach Joe Salerno expects the charismatic newcomer to become an instant sensation among fans at the Eastlink Centre.

He also said, "Jahii signing is great for the NBL Canada. It just shows that the league continues to grow and is able to attract some of the best players from major college programs."

The Island's signing of Carson comes soon after the team announced the return of veteran Nick Okorie— along with the addition of Jackson Trapp —to their back court.
